Brewer
Job Description:
The brewer position at Dorchester Brewing Company is primarily responsible for wort production on the 30 bbl production brewhouse including milling, mashing, lautering, boiling, whirlpooling, knocking out, removing spent grain, and pitching yeast. Additionally, this position is responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of all vessels and equipment associated with the brewhouse. This position will also be responsible for all brewing, cellaring, and packaging operations associated with the two vessel pilot system. As with all operations staff, this position is responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary workspace and reporting or addressing any safety hazards. Other production duties may be assigned as necessary.
This position requires a comprehensive knowledge of the brewing process, outstanding attention to detail, and the ability to multitask effectively. At any given time, the brewer could be responsible for manipulating and processing three different batches of wort at different stages of production. Time management and organization are critical skills for successfully executing brewhouse operations. Additionally, skills such as recipe development, sensory analysis, mechanical familiarity, and knowledge of steam, glycol, and other facility systems are beneficial. The role is physically demanding, and requires the ability to lift 55 lbs repeatedly and navigate around the equipment and facility.
What to Expect:
Operating all brewhouse equipment on the 30 bbl, four vessel system, including milling and spent grain removal
Operating 5 bbl pilot brewhouse and cellar
Performing preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of all equipment
Maintaining cleanliness and sanitary conditions in the brewery
Using all required PPE and contributing to a culture of safety in the workplace
Maintaining detailed and accurate records of all brewhouse operations
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED
Production brewery experience
Formal brewing education (a plus but not required)
Physical capability to execute all brewhouse operations
Compensation:
This is a full time role. Salary is commensurate with experience
50%+ contribution by DBCo to health insurance
15 days of PTO + 8 holidays
401k with 4% company match
