DOTtalk: HomeStart

Friday, August 11 at 3pm we’ll be hosting the next in our DOTtalk series, featuring the team from HomeStart! Once again, this non-profit presentation is paired with a charity beer that we’re brewing, with benefits going to HomeStart directly.

Come by the taproom on Friday, August 11 at 3pm to learn more about HomeStart and its work to end and prevent homelessness in Boston!

About HomeStart, Inc. (in their own words):

Mission: To end homelessness in Greater Boston by assisting individuals in obtaining housing and settling into the community, and by developing strategies to prevent homelessness before it starts.

HomeStart is a leading provider of housing services for people who are currently experiencing homelessness, who have recently moved from homelessness to housing, or who are at risk of becoming homeless by way of eviction. We are a dynamic, innovative non-profit agency committed to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in all aspects of our work.

Over the course of the last 27 years, HomeStart has helped to find permanent housing for more than 14,000 individuals living on the street and in shelters, and has prevented over 4,000 families from experiencing homelessness.  HomeStart is uniquely positioned to dramatically reduce homelessness.

On any given night in Boston, there are 4,645 people experiencing homelessness: 1,591 individuals and 3,054 people in families. Over the course of a year, more than 15,000 people will experience homelessness in Boston, and local, state, and federal sources will spend over $200M in emergency services to address the problem in Boston.

HomeStart serves thousands of people each year in the Greater Boston Area.  Our clients include single parents and their children, survivors of domestic violence, veterans, and persons with disabilities.  All of them are living at or below the poverty line.
